A world-class architecture
Positioning MX.3 as the leading end-to-end capital markets platform would not have been feasible without the support of a suitable architecture. Murex has completed an immense investment program in order to design and implement the MX.3 architecture, drawing from unique experience building integrated platforms and from no-compromise adoption of new technologies and development methods.
The distributed n-tier architecture resulting from this investment is founded on a fault-tolerant infrastructure. It implements a layer of generic business components upon which specific applications are built and provides accessibility equally through either an efficient rich client or through language-independent XML-based APIs. The Dot Three Extension Framework completes the picture with a strict framework aimed to allow clients to extend capabilities of the platform by integrating proprietary knowledge.
High level architecture diagram
The architecture can be further defined through the main benefits it delivers to our clients:
- Massively scalable.
MX.3 is designed to handle daily volumes in excess of one million trades for flow businesses, and exploit a parallelisation framework for CPU-intensive structured products activities and risk management. Numerous horizontal and vertical scalability levers can be activated as appropriate, such as memory caching, horizontal scalability of compute engine with automated load balancing.
-
Globally deployed.
The full functionality is accessible within the rich client graphical interfaces through LANs, WANs or through the internet with remarkable ease of deployment and efficiency, under the control of high security standards.
-
Fully accessible.
The MX.3 platform makes its business logic available through SOAP APIs. Business components such as the business object repository, the risk and pricing engines or the Murex Limits Controller can be accessed.
-
Extensible by design.
The extensibility of the data model and functional logic behind Murex business objects is an essential feature of the MX.3 platform. The Dot Three Extension Framework achieves such extensibility at minimal programming cost through inheritance of the technical and functional infrastructure of MX.3.
-
Connected seamlessly.
The MX.3 Integration Framework is designed to cope with integration challenges of enterprise-wide capital markets solutions. The framework delivers simplicity of configuration and operation through deployment of
. a Datamart as a hub for on-demand interfaces
. an Exchange Workflow manager as a backbone of real time connectivity.
Various services and utilities such as a central data dictionary and a suite of mapping tools are packaged along to deliver a one-stop integration environment.
-
Robust.
Critical data are made persistent so that a particular state can always be restored. The infrastructure layer monitors the lifecycle of key services. Two-phase commit mechanisms ensure integrity of complex transactions and the use of clustering mechanisms from Sybase or Oracle addresses potential database failures
-
Language-independent and standard-ready.
While relying on the Java™ programming platform, the MX.3 architecture can integrate components written in any language through the manipulation of XML representations of business objects and the publication of SOAP APIs. Murex services are readily compatible with the J2EE and .NET environments. Finally, MX.3 is available for deployment on UNIX® , LINUX and Windows™ servers.
